| What is "wedding photojournalism?" Telling a story with pictures. Working as a photojournalist means that you document the happenings of the day candidly and naturally, not in a posed fashion. A true photojournalist is extremely quick, alert, attentive to details and personalities, unobtrusive throughout the day.... Do you shoot film or digital? Film! My weddings are documented using 35mm professional Canon cameras. Although much of society has gone the digital route, I remain loyal to the inimitable quality and beauty of film. The grain, blurs, depth - these are the components of art, especially when shooting in black & white. My film is professionally processed and printed - I have yet to encounter a client who was not thrilled with his or her film photography results! Do you shoot in both color and black & white? Yes. While I have had weddings where clients specifically requested only black & white shooting, most couples like to split it 50/50. I am happy to shoot any ratio that my clients would like. How many photos are taken throughout the day? Unlimited coverage typically renders 800 - 1000 photographs, depending on the duration of the day and the size of the wedding. Will my photos be available online for easy and convenient ordering? Yes. I will edit all original photos from the wedding day and provide 300-400 online for ordering. All orders are printed by the professional lab which I exclusively patronize - I do not utilize the services of the more generic and mainstream online photo printers. Perella Photography only provides custom prints. All online galleries are strictly password protected. Available print sizes range from wallets to 16x24 prints. Canvas wraps are available as well. What does unlimited coverage entail? Unlimited coverage means that I usually begin my day shooting preparations - the hair salon, makeup, dressing - and continue documentation throughout the entire day until the end of the reception or midnight. Do you shoot any posed photos or portraiture? Absolutely. While the bulk of my shooting is dedicated to documentary and fine art coverage, I do appreciate the desire of couples to include some posed portraiture in their day. I am a strong proponent of portraits that are relaxed, happy, and natural - I believe that people should reveal their true selves in photographs and that ultimately, these are the photographs that others enjoy viewing time after time. I work with each couple to customize a small list of family portraits and I also enjoy collaborating on ideas for creative wedding party portraiture. What do you enjoy most about your work? I like the fact that no two weddings are ever the same. I enjoy being quick on my feet and observant to the events unfolding in my midst. I love seeing a fleeting moment out of the corner of my eye and capturing it a split second before it is forever gone. I am truly thankful to record an entire day that will be looked over for generations to come and through photographs to create a permanent record of loved ones. What is your philosophy? I believe in getting to know my clients very well. Properly documenting a wedding requires a human touch - it should never merely involve clocking in for a set amount of time and clicking a button to produce a standard group of shots. As the documentarian, I am aware that I have one chance to capture not only the story, but the essence, of my couples' days. The core of my philosophy is entrenching myself in the day and appreciating all that surrounds me. I translate that appreciation into images that genuinely reflect and interpret each individual event. What are the best compliments that you receive from clients? Definitely that I have a strong knack for capturing on film the true personas of people, many whom I have never encountered prior to the wedding day. Clients often remark that I have caught certain expressions or body language unique to specific subjects and that it further authenticates their wedding story. Brides frequently marvel over tiny details, often overlooked or forgotten, that I am sensitive to remembering. Are you available for travel? Yes! I have always enjoyed travel and welcome the opportunity to document weddings on a national and international basis. I recently worked in Playa del Carmen, Mexico and have an upcoming booking in the Dominican Republic. When traveling nationally and internationally, I require coverage of travel expenses as well as 2-3 nights of lodging How do I arrange a consultation? Consultations may be arranged via telephone or e-mail. I personally handle all correspondence and look forward to assisting potential clients to my fullest capacity. |
